I am thrilled to be running for EGS VP Internal for the 2024-2025 academic year. I graduated from the iBioMed program in Materials Science Engineering at McMaster University before starting my Master’s degree, in Biomedical Engineering in September. Throughout my time at McMaster I have been fortunate to experience the supportive and caring environment fostered within the Faculty of Engineering. I believe that EGS plays a key role in enriching the experience of engineering graduate students, through academic and social events, awards, and student support. This has spurred my desire to contribute directly to the McMaster community through involvement in EGS. During my undergraduate degree, I held the role of VP Internal for the McMaster branch of War Child – a charity aimed at helping children in war-torn countries – for three years. Along with three other McMaster undergraduate students, I worked to restart War Child @ Mac and ensure successful operations, whether that was through organizing internal meetings, running fundraising initiatives, balancing the group financials, maintaining our social platforms, or hosting social events. Concurrently, I volunteered with the Engineering Co-op and Career Services office as a co-op ambassador for two years, interacting directly with undergraduate students in search of co-op experiences, facilitating employer and networking events, and sharing my experiences in research co-ops. These experiences have helped to nurture the leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills necessary for me to succeed in the role of VP Internal for EGS.

As a McMaster Alumni and Graduate student in my first year of studies I am excited to be more involved and represent the McMaster graduate community. I have been the first and second year representative for the Bachelor of Technology Association where I and my collogues held multiple professional development, social and technical events for the benefit of B.Tech students. During this time I was able to be responsible for seeking out the students in the program to attend events and also understand their concerns regarding their curriculum, social and professional development at McMaster. This is a great opportunity to innovate how “we” graduate students approach our studies to also remember our ideas and eagerness to create awesome solutions to problems we encounter outside our courses and research. We should not be bound by our academic focus to ignore our passions that can leaf us to create outside the box solutions.

Why are you interested in this role? and what skills/experience do you have that you think would make you a good fit for it?
I am interested in getting involved with EGS to create safe and innovative living spaces for graduate students
as well as to support and improve their learning journeys at McMaster.
During my undergraduate study, I served as an executive and later as the club coordinator of the Glow
Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity, which is the oldest continually-running university-based LGBTQ+
group in Canada. My commitment to advocating for club activities and creating a safe space for community
members not only led to my election but also allowed me to collaborate with other social organizations to
host major social events such as the Pride Parade and the celebration of Glow’s 50th birthday.
Moreover, I served as Peer Mentor in my department to support mentee’s self-development, facilitate school
social events and create an online social platform to ensure students stay connected during Covid lockdown.
I look forward to continuing my contribution to EGS at McMaster University.

Why are you interested in this role? and what skills/experience do you have that you think would make you a good fit for it?
