GSA Faculty Representatives (FRC)

The FRC (Faculty Representative to the GSA Council) is a special position on the EGS Council.  In total, 2 people from the Council are to be appointed to represent the Council and all Engineering graduate students to the general Graduate Student Association (GSA).

These students engage with the Faculty of Engineering through direct contact with the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Michael Thompson, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ishwar K. Puri.

FRC 2013 – 2014:

Carla Abarca

Carla is a Chilean Ph.D. Candidate in Chemical Engineering working for Dr. Robert Pelton in new approaches to Nickel Processing. As a current FRC, Carla has been focusing on: 1) the formation of a recognized graduate student body for Engineering, and 2) improving the communication to her colleagues by augmenting the Engineering FRC page in the GSA website and the FRC Facebook group.
During this year, she and her fellow FRC, Adhithya, established the Founding Committee for a prospective Engineering Graduate Student Council; in which bi-weekly meetings with representatives of each department of the Faculty are held, in order to leverage the main topics that this Council should address in the near future. Therefore, she would like to continue her work as a FRC to keep working in this important project, and hopefully next September introduce a New Engineering Graduate Student Council to all of you.

Adhithya Ravichandran

Adhithya Ravichandran (Adhi), is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. Adhi has been at Mac for 5 years now and is currently one of the Engineering FRCs.
As an FRC, Adhi has, along with Carla, his fellow FRC, made significant progress in improving student life and student engagement in the Faculty of Engineering by 1. Co-Founding and co-Chairing the Founding Committee for a future Engineering Graduate Council 2. Establishing channels of communication between the GSA and individual students in the Faculty.
The intent for forming a future Engineering Graduate Council is to establish a student body which works for the welfare of the engineering graduate students at McMaster. Adhi feels strongly that this is an urgent need that should be addressed. Adhi intends to continue his work with the Engineering Council Founding Committee to identify, implement, and establish said council, draft formal documents, and form & establish connections with external agencies in the university for sustainment of the council.
