Prior to Flixel, he developed over 30 apps for the App Store including one of the first e-book readers and personal safety systems. Before becoming a cliché and dropping out of a Ph.D. in Software Engineering, his research work was focused on symbolic timing analysis of safety-critical systems. Mark holds a B.Eng.Mgt. and M.A.Sc. in Software Engineering from McMaster University.
Mark will be delivering a talk titled, “Surviving Execution – Persevering a Startup and Self.” When asked for his BigIdea, and how he’ll achieve it, he responded, “From prehistoric pictographs, humans have used images to tell a story. Today, visual storytelling is digital. It sits at the intersection of art and technology. If we hide the complexity of the technology, we can easily create visual stories that were difficult or impossible to create in analog form. Building easy to use tools that fills the space between a still image and a full motion video with new visual media. This includes Flixel’s flagship and award winning apps, Cinemagraph Pro. A cinemagraph looks like a photo but there is element of endlessly looping motion that is mesmerizing.”
