METRIC Monday – Dr. Elizabeth Hassan

Introducing Guest Speaker Dr. Elizabeth Hassan!

Elizabeth is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering 1 at McMaster University. Her current teaching work focuses on design and experiential education. She started her career at Queen’s University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and after a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Western University she joined MEA Forensic Engineers and Scientists.  There she analyzed motor vehicle collisions and earned her P.Eng designation. She then went on to earn a Master’s in Design in Strategic Foresight and Innovation at OCADU and a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University. Her doctoral work developed new statistical analysis techniques for biomechanical and neuromuscular signals and her post-doctoral work was in Neuroscience at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute’s Sachs Lab. Although she has worked in a wide range of research environments and topic areas the common thread in all her work is translational research and collaboration.

Dr. Hassan will be giving a guest talk, titled How Art School Made Me a Better Engineer.  When asked for her Big Idea, and how she’ll achieve it, she replied, “A wide range of diverse technical experiences make us better engineers, so I’m working to increase student access to experiential activities here at Mac.  I’m conducting educational research to figure out how to best support engineering experiences for students from all disciplines.”

To hear Dr. Hassan’s talk and other great guest and student speakers, register for METRIC today here.  Registration will close on Friday, August 10th, 2018
