Introducing Guest Speaker Dr. Bob Dony!
Bob Dony holds BASc and MASc degrees in systems design engineering from the University of Waterloo and a PhD in electrical and computer engineering from McMaster University. He is an associate professor in the School of Engineering, University of Guelph in the biomedical engineering program where he has been since 1997. Licensed by PEO in 1989, Dr. Dony has served on numerous PEO committees before and since his election to Council as councillor at large in 2012. In 2016 he was elected as president elect and served as president of PEO for the 2017-2018 Council year. In addition to his service to PEO, Dr. Dony was co-editor-in-chief, Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (2008-2011), past member of Engineers Canada’s Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board (2001-2004), the PEO representative on Engineers Canada’s Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (2014-2018) and now serves as its Vice Chair. He has been awarded a Fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers and a Fellow of Engineers Canada for his contributions to the profession.
Bob will be delivering a guest talk, titled “The Fourth Industrial Revolution and the Future of the Engineering Profession.” His Big Idea, or Big Question, is whether or not the PEO as a regulator is relevant to the emerging Fourth Industrial Revolution. He plans to address this through engaging the new generation of engineers into the discussion.
