The EGS is organizing the 2016 edition of the engineering graduate conference: METRIC. McMaster Engineering, Technology, Research & Innovation Conference. Our conference provides an opportunity for graduate students, postdocs, professors and industrial alumni in different engineering fields to engage, share ideas, develop collaboration strategies and share information about resources. Researchers can discuss the most recent innovations, trends, concerns, and practical challenges encountered and together we can work to find solutions while fostering collaboration between departments, research groups and industry.
Mark your calendars for Friday August 19th. The conference will be held in McMaster Innovation Park. Student speakers will be grouped into research areas, not by department. The intention being to naturally identify areas of potential collaboration, resource sharing and advice sharing! After each set of speakers there will be a Q&A panel instead of individual question time. In the afternoon, we will have breakout professional development workshops, tours to Canmet, The Forge and MARC and a wine & cheese reception.
The call for abstracts will be coming soon and all of the latest updates can be found here http://egs.mcmaster.ca/metric/
Research Minutes Video Contest
We just got our SPICES funding proposal for the video contest approved. This year we are working with email@example.com to expand the video contest into a university wide project. Participants are invited to make 1 minute video about their research. You can make it by yourself or you can make it as a group. The best video from each Faculty will be awarded $500. The judges will be the Dean’s of each Faculty.
The contest will run from May and the deadline is July 31st. We will be releasing tips and tricks along the way and there will be a video making workshop to help you out! Have you heard of the Lyons Media Centre? It’s on the 4th floor of Mills library and you can rent video making equipment from there, you can access a whole host of video editing software tools and they even have a media consultant who can help you out! This is all FREE for McMaster students so be sure to check it out if you are interested in participating this year.
